Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization - What's the Hype?

Soft tissue pathology plays a primary role in limiting mobility, often resulting in profound loss of function for those with injuries. In this introductory skills acquisition course, participants will receive an introduction in the proper use of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) techniques. Participants will learn the proper applications and scenarios for IASTM, while gaining the knowledge on how to integrate IASTM intervention into the overall treatment session. Included in this webinar will be a review of appropriate clinical instruments, how to choose them, and ways to optimize your ROI.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the proper applications and scenarios for IASTM.
  • Understand, identify, and apply the appropriate IASTM treatment edge: concave, convex, broad vs. small contact, single bevel, or double bevel, based on the target tissue and desired treatment effect.
  • Choose appropriate basic treatment IASTM strokes (e.g., sweeping, fanning, brushing, strumming, and framing) based on the body region contours, nature of the soft tissue restriction and desired treatment outcome.
  • Choose and utilize proper clinical instruments and emollient for IASTM treatment.
  • Integrate IASTM intervention into the overall treatment session.
