Profiles in Leadership—Terry Brown

Posted on: in [ Profiles in Leadership ]

It’s time for another Profiles in Leadership! Today, Steve Anderson, PT, DPT, sits down with Terry Brown, PT, DPT, COMT. Terry earned his undergraduate and physical therapy degrees from the University of Kentucky.  He is vice president and COO of Pro-Active Therapy in Frankfort, Kentucky, where he specializes in orthopedics. He is married to another physical therapist, Debbie Brown, and they have five grown children, two of whom are in the physical therapy profession.

Terry has been president of the Kentucky Chapter and chair of the APTA nominating committee. He has been in five different APTA advisory committees and on the PPS board as a director, vice president and current president.

In today’s episode, Terry and Steve discuss:

  • How a break from college led him to pursuing physical therapy.
  • Why a small, rural state like Kentucky has a high number of leaders in the physical therapy world.
  • Terry’s reflections on how he went from a “bull in a china shop” to an effective people manager.
  • How the physician-physical therapist relationship has changed over the years.
  • Terry’s biggest points of pride from his 10 years as PPS president.
  • The challenge of spearheading projects in an organization as big as the state-level PPS.

Thank you for tuning into this segment of Profiles in Leadership! Look for the next interview Steve Anderson conducts with industry leaders and what Pearls of Wisdom they have to offer from their years of experience. VGM Advantage is proud to sponsor these talks, and is here for your physical therapy business as you look to growsaveevolvesecure and collaborate.
